I'll be that guy for a second, but is it just me or do these ArtFight account by non-artists who ask for art of just their fursonas/vtubers/etc come off as leeches who just want free art to use?

Either to get free art of their Fursona or to get art for an adopt to sell for a higher price.
I've seen a few who just follow 1.000 accounts got some nice art but didn't Attack a single person (and probably never planned to)
Yeeeah, there's some who follow 58396300503 accounts, with LOL-MEME profiles, get hundreds of attacks by goodwilling people and never attack or revenge a single one.

Yeah, its not always easy to prove, especially if they claim its an oc and still sell it later. Cant do much about it then.
Yeah, I think a lot pf people are drawn in by the prospect of free art instead of drawing for others. There will always be assholes.

I usually make an effort to make sure those folks drew for others at least, but yeesh!
Yeah, same, I usually do not attack accounts that didnt deliver anything yet or have abysmal ratios (like receiving 100+ and giving less than 10).
Especially if its people who found the time to upload 328392 ocs, yet they claim they have no time to draw - but take the free art anyway.

That really seems like it yeah, I did AF just once last year and with my friends so it was quite chill. And it was basically art trades since we were all artists. If those non artists don't offer anything in return to anyone, it's a bit suspicious.
Ho sure, if there's a design you like, it's always nice to draw something and it makes the person's day. But yeah, it's best to be a bit careful and see if they're just asking free art and don't give anything.
oh absolutely. It wa smy first year in AF last year but I could tell that a lot of folk were REALLY pushing tog et art of their characters for free and then....just, didnt apprechiate it if it didnt hit their criteria of aesthetic-
YES, that too – I was lucky so far, but some of my friends had cases where they didnt even hear a thank you back, I guess cuz the person didnt like the style and didnt appreciate the effort.
I basically did lots of tiny artworks for lots of character designs that I found and liked and...a lot of people didnt even acknowledge it bc my art (which tbh is rather cartoony) didnt fit their aesthetic. If you exchange art with other artists however - difference as night and day!

Even if an artwork doesnt fit your personal aesthetic, its important to acknowledge that they took some of their time to draw you something. People are so entitled sometimes.
it is weird tbh :') It made me feel pretty self consious in my art as well. I still decided to join again this year, if I can, tho bc I really enjoyed drawing new and different characters, it felt like revitalizing my skills. And if it only makes 1 of 5 people happy...thats okay!

Yeah; I'm always afraid it comes off as whining I won't be revenged, but it's really just that I'd rather attack people who are participating. There's no rules that art needs to be "good" to post, either, so it feels extra sad they don't try to give anything back to the community at all :(
YES, thats the thing. No one expects you to be a freaking DaVinci, but the least you could do is draw SOMETHING back. Worse, some don't even say thank you or anything.

Oh, I personally never joined AF due to my schedule, I amazed to know that this is open for non- artists as well, still curious if they would draw something for joining, wanting without giving back is actually so terrible 😔

I actually don't know if its "open" for non artists. Like, I guess no rule explicitly states that you gotta be an artist (thatd hard to enforce/check), but the name/themes strongly imply it, since its an art TRADING game 😬

I personally think its fine to enter as long as someone actively participates in any way.
But there's people who really just want free art and deliver nothing.
I think that goes against the spirit of the event yeah, might even be reportable? (And I know the adopt thing is definitely against the rules somewhere)

Like sometimes you see a big artist joining, saying they wont have time to draw, yet found the time to upload all of their ocs and want art. That also seems a bit iffy imo. Like either you join or you dont.
Maybe it’s more just, a given. That you’re supposed draw things for people when you join this event haha.

I tend to devote my whole month to it, not everyone needs to do that, but, you should at least have the intention of participating!
Horrid :C I honestly only get to see the frustrating side of it. One of the main reasons I don't participate. A friend always does, draws awesome attacks, never gets revenge back or attacked in the first place, bummed me out real hard, remember drawing them something afterwards to cheer them up.

My experience was pretty positive overall so far, I admit. I'm just very careful with who I'm attacking/i make sure they are active/no leech/have their own art posted.
Overall AF is pretty fun, but you defo have to avoid a specific kind of user there.
Oh, also all that aside, I wish you all a super fun time I don't want to be all doom and gloom. I think the core idea is really nice and I hope everyone participating gets something out of it🙏

AF isnt perfect, but it can be a lot of fun if you keep your expectations reasonable
I'm sure its a balance of finding not TOO popular artists to attack, obviously they cannot attack back everyone, but I'm sure my friend went with smaller artists and all in all there is never a guarantee you get any art at all even when you attack countless times. It feels more like gambling :(
However I do sorta "precheck" the people I attack:
I check if they are active, how their ratio is, i follow (if they follow back i guess that means they like my art), comment to see if they even respond at all
Its not a gurantee but at least so far I at least got a thank you from everyone I drew for
I guess it is a gamble to begin with. I usually go into AF with no expectations about revenging/getting art. I usually am more of an attacker than revenger to begin with (people often dont revenge me either, its fine - but I also sometimes get random attacks)

This will be my first Artfight where will try to participate, so I am not sure about how common those accounts are.
I have never heard of this, and frankly that's kind of horrific... Like I know there are some big name artists that only do like 5 attacks and get a 100, but I never would've thought there's non-artists that join... That's so scummy.

Yup exactly! I get it too, but man when they go around promoting it everywhere it really raises some eyebrows.
At the very least they could write thank yous, that doesn't take long, but I've seen so many not even do that. It's really sad.

I do like attacking random people, so I get to draw designs I just like, but I think I'll be even more careful this year.
