In the UK it is undertaken under reasons that are purely ideological. There is no sense within UK Government that the country's greatest asset is on its death bed.

Obviously, the financial and political problems in UK and, particularly, US are a massive opportunity for the EU and individual European countries to attract top scientists, who would not have considered moving a few years ago. Sadly, this will not happen.

It is actually quite easy, it is just financially expensive and politically irrelevant/unpopular. There are and have been programs to attract "exceptional talent" in academia, sport, etc. in many countries. It's about political will, more than anything. 1/2

Know in Germany about #WissZeitVG (TC to work in academia). The German academic market is notoriously short on permanent positions. As many institutions are underfunded, they rely on soft money, ie temporary positions . Checkout here #ichbinhanna

Focus should be on Project 2025. Seems as if all action plans are outlined.

We need our leaders to develop / implement opposing plan now. One that spells out an itemized rebuttal for all to use.

Align efforts, garner support, apply financial commitments, stiffen resolve.
