Just a quick story: when my 2 oldest were around 5 and 3, I was reading them Swallows and Amazons as a bedtime story. I went downstairs one morning to find, at the older one's instigation, that they had emptied the milk...
Then... they did it AGAIN the next morning, even though they had been scolded the day before. Omg, love them so much.

There is a spike in reading performance when kids get to pick the books they read in school.
With young kids in particular, adults tend to get the them books they loved as kinds. What does the kid love most? Get books about that!

There were no better ways to get your energy out, Mom?
Yoga? Hiking? Biking? Tag?

They'd damn well better reciprocate. A Christmas without books is a hideous prospect.

Percy and many of the other demigod kids have both ADD and dyslexia- the latter because their brains are wired for ancient Greek, and the former because ADHD is meant to help you stay alive in battle.
