I wonder how much the cognitive load is bearing on Odegaard alongside his and the team's physical struggles. He's trying to do so so much its must have a cost. I was struck and how much he had to ask Saka to get involved in the press. It felt like it was directly related to B's legs not being there.

He's probably the player the wider team struggles shows up in the most because he's at the heart of both phases more than anyone. The conductor can be at his best but if the players are fucked he'll look stupid. Add in his individual issues and the fine margins and you get what we're seeing.

yeah I think he'd need to be putting things on an absolute plate to be getting much in the way of assists and obviously isn't finishing well right now, that's all very loud. the ball striking not being quite right makes me wonder about the ankle. the in between stuff has been great though

Yep, the ankle would be the only worry I have past this season but that won't get answered until then so it's best not to dwell on it. If you look at what Odegaard does his work is just something different entirely next year with a new 6 and a 9 to actually finish what he's already doing.

I think he’s been nowhere as bad as advertised this season but the issues apparent in this game are issues he’s had all season on a smaller scale. If that makes sense.

yeah I think the nature of his struggles in this game are a recipe for a PR nightmare, given what people have been on his case for going on three years now (even at the height of his powers)

I’m curious how much of Ode’s negative number comes from the early turnover in our own box. I feel like the only reason he was even in that position was trying to bail us out of an unfolding mess. Obviously still a mistake but yeah.

it's a good question, perhaps @scott.cannonstats.com can check the running tally of actions. I know there are also some 1H actions in buildup/resisting the press that would not have generated GPA but were pretty significant for turning tide (really nice receptions, smart/deft evasive passes)

this jibes with my general impression - felt like some big negative swings took him way down early, a couple of really good moments helped turn the game, then just didn't have that *voila* moment anywhere thereafter and struggled to impact the game on the ball
