Why do we keep electing / re-electing the elderly? Sometimes really elderly? Do we have so little confidence in the knowledge and abilities of younger (and more vigorous) candidates?
Maybe. I'm toward the end of the boomer gen (born between 1946 & 1964, per Wikipedia) and I'd rather see us elect more folks like AOC & Mallory McMorrow.
Unflattering photo, sure - he had bone cancer in his jaw in 2022. But in 35 years of public service (27 in the Texas House, 8 yrs as mayor of Houston) and a lawyer before that, he contributed more than most of us ever will. He fought hard for poor Texans.

incumbents have so much money and connections that it takes decades to compete with them.
By the time the "newcomers" have grifted enough to run, they are elderly themselves
