We already get that though in a lot of games. A lot of devs put in the effort to do exactly that. Baldurs Gate is a great example of this. It would be incredibly disrespectful to the actors who play these characters and the devs that put in the work to give their jobs and craft to a computer.

guess I just played the wrong games in the last few years.

it would probably be more ok if studios are very transparent about this stuff. something like "yes we used AI voice for some additional NPC interactions, but most of the voice lines were recorded traditionally by a professional voice actor"

So yeah I agree this isn’t the way to go and I refuse to ever play a game that does this. There’s no soul in it and it will harm so many people.

Theres mods for skyrim that does this and it works decently. Instead of choosing from a list of questions and getting the same voice line back each time it'll be cool to ask your own question and get a new reply each time. My phone uses AI to remove stuff from backgrounds of photos, wheres the line
