I got my first, insanely beloved, kitty at an open admissions shelter. They required adopters to spay/neuter all adoptees, but also had deals with veterinarians all over town to do spaying for $25. (This is was in 1989.) They were doing their best, and I was so lucky to find my girl there.

❤️ Most of them are doing their best with the very, very limited resources they have. When people put them down and encourage others to withhold donations it just means they'll be able to help even fewer animals.

I've volunteered w/numerous all-take shelters and can't tell you how many times I've had to explain that "no kill" shelters are often "very-exclusive-take" shelters, which don't help most feral or abandoned pets at all. Also, sometimes for sick or injured animals, euthenasia is the kindest option.
