Michigan!

I’ve been fostering this rescue cat for a year now and she really needs a home 😢 she got adopted once by an older fellow but returned bc he was scared of cutting her nails and she would accidentally prickle him up by making biscuits on him. Located in SE Michigan www.petfinder.com/cat/milly-75...

Do you need to clip cats nails? I always just gave them things to scratch. Am I a bad cat dad?

It depends on the cat, whether they're indoor only, and how much/hard they use their scratchers. I'm sure your vet would've mentioned something if your cats' nails were overgrown but it's definitely good to keep an eye on them as they become seniors and may use scratchers less often/vigorously.

Generally if they have a lot of things to scratch and wear their claws on or you allow them outdoors they will do well at shedding old claws and keeping their current ones neat and trimmed.

They can still be like little knives though which is where trimming can help...

Since it's a low stress (if you can get them used to it) way of taking some of the sharpness from those murder mittens without resorting to cruel tactics such as de-clawing

At the very least the biscuit machine won't turn your legs to mush for the 10,000th time so long as those claws are in check!

I've never trimmed claws. But they have tons to scratch.
I think this was a silly reason. But maybe the person really wasn't cut out to be a cat friend

I’m sure you’re not! Some cats aren’t great at keeping them neat and they can grow into their pads, or maybe they get stuck on stuff. My cats get their nails stuck in stuff all the time but don’t let me trim them lol

Fostering difficult cats can be rewarding. My boy was taken off the Euth line at a shelter by a cage free older cat shelter. There, he proceeded to terrorize the other cats & had to be put into a huge cage all by himself. I've been his permanent foster mom for 17 months now and won't give him up.

Our 30 day foster has been with us for nearly 3 years now. Adopt Milly - you won’t be sorry. Also, I can’t cut our cats toenails either. Luckily my wife can do it.
