I have a recipe from an Old Country Houses of Ireland cookbook which makes an orange and almond cake with several of these and when I make it the house smells wonderful amd very Christmasy.

I do enjoy a nice mulled wine after a long bracing walk, so all of the above. Freshly grated nutmeg on orange glazed carrots to accompany a fabulous prime rib roast, yummo😋 What’s not to love about food at this time of year?

I over thought this one :) Love them all. I was delighted to see that Sweet Cinnamon turned up in Tescos again recently. Much nicer. Great in Morrocan dishes (and my banana smoothies). Love ging too, has to be fresh.

Oh not cloves for me Helen. My mother used to make lovely apple tarts but every so often she would stud the pastry with cloves and, to me anyway, completely ruin the lovely tart... to this day I avoid them.. Cinnamon for me...

Cloves and ginger! I love cinnamon, but the recent phenomenon of shops infusing the scent everywhere to make it smell "Christmassy" is off-putting. Real cinnamon yes, fake sickly cinnamon, nope!

Cinnamon is on top for me. In my apple tart it’s 1 tsp cinnamon to 1/8 tsp nutmeg through the apples and sugar. Can’t take cloves in food, only in gluhvein, hot port or hot whiskey.
