Is it just the heavy hitters though? I was strongly interested in the leaked H2D with an AMS to have a second printer. I am not even slightly interested in a Chinese company monitoring what I do, or even just adding unnecessary hoops for me to use a device I own.

This is objectively anti-consumer.

Yeah totally agree on the anti-consumerism bit, but Bambu are probably just wanting to make sure that the experience is consistent rather than fragmented. Makes it a lot easier to support.

Either way, it seems if you have a differing opinion than Reddit on this matter then you're wrong :|

Bambu already provided a consistent experience. If you used their filament with their profiles and their slicer, it is as close to a perfect experience as you can get in the consumer grade market.

That UE is why I wanted the H2D/AMS to go with my Prusa, though I wouldn’t use their filament

I think you are just trying to give them good grace, but they’re most definitely going to do things like restricting users to their filament perhaps unless they pay a subscription, and monitoring what they print. Based on the backlash, they may back off temporarily, but it is definitely coming

As I said previously, before I was blocked, that people are jumping on a bandwagon based on vague-ish information and are screaming about it on the internet because it gets clicks, rather than just giving objective feedback and discussing it sensibly.

I understand what you’re saying, but you have to look at what happens in biz. Netflix ran ads for years that you could share accounts. They took that out of their TOS and people raised the flag. Nobody listened. Now they charge more for account sharing under the guise of account security

However I do NOT want Bambu to force people to only use their filament, if they do that then yeah I'm out too (even though Bambu filament is actually pretty good). Their committment to add the Developer LAN mode shows they're listening, but I don't think they'll drop the decision all together.

I'm just seeing it from a different perspective maybe - like, it's not that much different UX. You click Print, the Network Plugin app appeared, you chose filament blah blah and clicked Print. Now it's just the Bambu Connect app rather than the Network Plugin app, and more secure.

Secure from what though? This has been the talking point, but never with explanation of what they’re protecting us from. The system they already had worked fantastic, that is why people are angry and concerned. Even just change for the sake of change is a problem, let alone malicious change
