If you ask me, these are deserving of a remaster. Not counting gen 1 re-releases we have not chosen between Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle to start since 2004. There has also never been a Kanto with both abilities and the physical/special split. The closest we got was Heart Good and Soul Silver

I think they stand on their own and if they did Kanto again they'd need to really change it up by expanding the region's routes, adding in crossgen evos and Johto additions to the region, and bring in some logical additions from other dexes to the region.
Otherwise I can just go play FireRed still.

Love the Sevii islands! Actually did the 200 jumps in pokemon jump with a friend who was a pro rocket league player (never played Pokémon before in his life) and we had a blast with it. Gorgeous sprite work and that beautiful gen 3 charm make it super replayable

I never got to play these as a kid, but now as an adult, I can appreciate what they were trying to do in getting Kanto and Johto Pokémon in the Gen 3 games. I just wish the Sevii Islands was a bit more fleshed out as a post game location.
