Warner Bros. Discovery will not renew their deal to release new episodes of ‘Sesame Street’, THR reports.

Sesame Workshop is now looking for a new studio to release new episodes.

I wonder what “a few months” means these days. When the deal was first announced it was a nine month wait, which is very unfair

The show was still on every day, so kids who only watched on PBS never knew there was a delay anyway. PBS cannot afford the production cost, even with the revenue Sesame Street brings in from all of its licensing. It'll end up on another streamer, just hope it's not one of the more expensive ones.

That’s my ultimate lament. That production costs have become such that they are no longer sustainable 4 public broadcasting to handle independently. They didn't. They couldn't afford to fund it though. Warner screened it on Max first, but part of the deal was PBS got to broadcast it a few weeks later.

They can afford it. Sesame Street is basically self funding via the Children’s Television Workshop (now sesame workshop) intl and merch deals.

The goal of the WBD deal was an additional income of funding so they can work on additional programming and resources.

It never left PBS. It’s continued live like it always has for the last 50 years, and episodes are available on time-delay on their streaming app.

I always thought this was a dumbass deal for WBD. Basically they donated a ton of money to CTW for the rights for back library and secondary streaming.

It was still on PBS. MAX got new episodes first and then a few weeks later they aired on PBS.

MAX was providing most of the funding for production.

Now it likely is dead if they can't find another provider. Trump is going to kill PBS.
