We are hearing that there is a meeting of all NIH IC directors happening now. We are also hearing, from several sources, rumors about director and assistant director level removals coming soon.

The impact of this wld be enormous.
IC directors have all grantmaking authority for each institute. 🧪

If I had to guess (and this is just my guess) I think RFKJr will accepted a couple but not most of them.

This seems to me to be a male dominance play, along the lines of what is going on with Eric Adams or with Mitt Romney when he dined (or was on the menu) with Trump back in 2016.

Grant-making authority can be delegated (and is frequently such as when an IC director comes from outside and is in conflict with their former institution.

I hope I'm right that what every happens is limited.

Firing all of them to "fix NIH" would be like doing open heart surgery with a chain saw.

It’s better to assume the worst of the new regime & prepare for that, than to reel in disbelief after the fact.

I assume any unit that RFK can’t fit into his twisted view of reality will be axed.

Surviving units will be put under new & incompetent/grifting management.

I do not have much more details, besides what I mentioned. it comes from snippets leaked out by people of my old IC would know, and were checking on me. If all of it is real, is bad for NIH and everyone depends on them

They are appointed by the Secretary of HHS.

Thank you. Note that no letter of resignation is needed by statute, each of them serve at the pleasure of the HHS Secretary and NIH director who can remove them.

One other note. Besides the IC directors, we do not think there is legal authority to demand the resignation of *anyone* else in the institutes.
It may be that we should get legal clarity on this quickly
