A scientist can be brilliant, imaginative, clever with his hands, profound, broad, narrow-but is is not worth much as a scientist unless he is responsible.

I've had too many PI's as of late that were far more interested in getting published in top journals and getting prizes. Getting to the bottom of things would be nice but clearly was NOT a priority.

Hate to say it. I have to say it all boils down to the systems that prioritize money over getting to the bottom of things. It’s nice when they overlap, but like all things, monetization tends to take out the joy and curiosity of everything (art, academics, sciences, etc…).

I can’t get past his use of “he” when referring to a generic scientist. I realize he said it in the 1980s. But…
