Agreed. I don’t think the majority of people in my home state understand how much federal funds plays a role in our day to day existence. Nothing will change here until people are hurt. Once it becomes personal people will pay attention. But it’s tragic that it has to come to that - ThreadSky

WV economy is, and has been for decades, so narrow and limited that many are just happy to have a job to pay bills and eat. And they’re afraid for that to go away. So they are attracted to people with power and wealth because those are the people who have allowed the stays quo. Trump is that to them

Let me help you: the Southern Strategy worked like a charm.

Somehow, politicians were able to convince the poorest white man that he is better than any Black man.

Consequently, EVERY decision made has "well, at least Black folks have less!" behind it.

Please don't misunderstand: I don't get any sort of pleasure watching folks suffer, especially addicts. Addiction has impacted my family, as well, & I know it's a disease, not a moral failing.

But, as my dad used to say, "if you will not hear, you will feel." And this is the "feel" portion.

I simultaneously love it and hate it here. Southern strategy, hand in hand with corporate greed has decimated a once proud way of life. The desperation, poverty, and addiction is overwhelming. I lost yet another former student to addiction this week. More suffering to come. Time to wake up.

That's horrible. :( Reminds me of the area known as "Pennsyltucky" (central PA - the area between Philly & Pittsburgh) - after the steel mills shut down, their economies were decimated, and now, they're in a similar state.

Yes, definitely -- I know the area, family immigrated there and worked the mines. Won't get better here in WV until voters wake up. House GOP supermajority have implemented school vouchers to ensure we stay stupid. Unfortunately, only more suffering will wake them up.
