The important reminder here is that Le Pen is not banned for running from office because of her *political views* but because of a *criminal case*. And enforcing sanctions/ consequences after someone breaks the law is a very basic principle of functioning rule of law.

Good grief, can we desist with this nonsense. Barring convicted criminals from holding office - especially criminals convicted of abuses of power - is just basic civic sense. The option of not stealing taxpayers' money was right there. www.economist.com/leaders/2025...
