Since 2000 in fact. It's memory holed too often how much part of the Austrian establishment the far right FPÖ has been for nearly 30 years, just as Italy's populist right has routinely been in coalition governments since 1994.

Not that I would disagree in general. I would even add that the type of people the FPÖ attracts are generally less equipped to navigate institutions successfully in the long term.
Also depends on the location (e.g. Wien vs Kärnten) somewhat.
