Feeling kind of disconnected from the publishing community since leaving X. I don’t see many posts here and Instagram is just completely random. Are BookTrust, NLT, Bookseller, Empathy Lab and bookshops etc active here, like they were on X?

We've just got here as a shop and I'm both enjoying finding people and daunted by starting from scratch again. It does feel like a much nicer place to be though
You can curate your timeline any way you like, here. Use the feeds for specific areas of interest - you can even design your own. The simplest way is to create lists and add your favourite accounts to them (you don't need to follow an account to include it in a list). It's quick and easy: try it! 🙂
No algorithm here, so it helps to follow lots of people who post the sort of content you like to see. Or use hashtags, or the Discover feed. It works differently than twiXer, but you have much more control over your experience. Good luck!
There are lots of folk here but I think the algorithm needs work so help us see each others posts. I’ve got some (pretty old now) starter packs on my profile for Uk Kid Lit folk that it’s worth taking a look through in case you’re missing some old friends.
*Waves!* It’s definitely harder to be connected and feel connected, but if you keep connecting with bookish people and authors, agents and publishers on starter packs, you gradually start to feel at home 🦋
It definitely feels quieter here. I think at the moment everyone is just harder to find. Booktrust are here but again it doesn’t show in feeds as easily even if you have them pinned!
Oh hello! I am just trying to settle in over here too and haven’t quite found my space yet. Teachers, allied health, authors / illustrators, politics, and neurodiversity are my points of interest.
Yep. Tbh I miss Twitter for this; before it turned REALLY bad, I mean. Sometimes I don't even bother posting here as I get so little traction. I must be missing a lot of things too.
You're only following 342 accounts at the moment, so it's not surprising it feels quiet. Use the publishing/author starter packs to turbocharge your following numbers and you'll soon populate your feed with like-minded souls 🙂
Hmmm...maybe it's not for me? Really not sure I can be bothered to take the time to network like I did before I was published. Will take a look at some starter packs, though.
I keep forgetting this place exists! And every time I come here, I see posts from the same person who has posted at the time and nothing else. So I get bored and leave.
There's no algorithm running in the same way as X. So, to see a lot of people you really do have to follow a lot of people. And, if there's one person dominating your feed, mute them for a while. It takes a while, but my experience here is so much better than X.
@bigbeardedbookseller.com has lots of great bookish lists of people you can follow and my starter pack of people I used to follow on Twitter and consider to be good eggs might help too? Includes lots of bookish types https://go.bsky.app/C1ibnEe
It’s definitely quieter here & harder to connect with people, but I really don’t miss all the awfulness of Twitter. I’m just persevering, even if I often feel I whispering into the void. Also, here’s a lovely pack of UK school librarians: https://bsky.app/profile/ljwattswales.bsky.social/post/3lb5r6g6lnk2t
