I get it, but keep in mind that sometimes this is a sign that someone has a large vocabulary due to reading but has never heard a word aloud. Younger me would have been happy with a gentle correction
There is a scene in a Woody Allen movie where there is a discussion of a list of words that are commonly mispronounced. My pet peeve is when nuclear is mispronounced especially by people in nuclear physics.
When I was a teenager, I knew what someone meant when they said “apitomy” but when I read it, it was “epi-tome.” Was embarrassed to figure out the the words were the the same word.
