I was personally rooting for Balatro but Astro bot is 100% deserves the award just as much. It’s pure fun, it doesn’t need an overly complex story or insane gameplay loop. Just a chill bot doing all the platforming and that’s alright!

Nah I just think platformers are not GOTY material it's not the early 2000s anymore. When I vote on GOTY I vote on gaming innovation and evolving gaming. Balatro was that for me this year took a formula that's been around for a 100 years and put a brand new spin on it.

Fair enough. I don’t agree. I think minimizing the quality of a game like Astro Bot just because platformers were big in the 2000’s is a bit close minded. I don’t think a game needs to be something new and innovative to be a goty contender.
