Dragon Age star Alix Wilton Regan has given her personal response to the backlash faced by last year's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and blamed the "mixed reactions" on people who "wanted to see the game fail, or wanted to see [BioWare] fail".

This game is still on my wishlist and I am excited to play it eventually. For me though, it was about the price. It just seemed so steep for a game that got a late name change, the direction of the game changed like 400 times, it made me uneasy about the purchase. Even without that, it is expensive
Played every DA game at launch. Played the whole series 100s of times over the years ... and am on my 37th playthrough of The Veilguard. It's my new favorite in the series (which says *a lot* given how much I love every game in the series).
I mean, I didn't want to see the game or Bioware fail. I love this franchise, I just didn't connect with Veilguard the way I was hoping I would for a number of reasons. There was nothing malicious in it, and I'm glad so many people enjoyed it and I have nothing but respect for the devs.
I want to play this game because I am a fan of Dragon Age. I think the culture war has broken people, and instead of critiquing the game, they use their opinions to express opposition to the LGBT representation. It's awful, but not surprising given the political climate we live in.
Not true. I just wanted to see what happened to all the characters in the story I liked after all these years and what I got was beginner rpg mechanics and a story with character graphics that made the them unrecognizable to a point that I didn’t care anymore…
Lol no but I remember when everyone was mad about the same thing for DA:I. The difference is that the core characters (like my Cousland rouge’s BM) looked the same and/or hotter and my choices had weight. The only choice that felt like that was the save a city one and it was too early in the story
One of those games that I enjoyed at the start, wanted to do everything, then the more I played it the less I enjoyed it. By the time I was near the end I just wanted it done. Didn't really care about any of the characters. 6/10 game.
I’m about 25 hours into Veilguard and really do not understand what people were so upset about. I’m having a lot fun with it. Is it perfect? No, but does not lessen how enjoyable the game is.
I was a bit skeptical, cause I didn't like Veilguard for the same reasons I didn't like Inquisition, which is the sanitation of the world's themes and philosophies. But I will say Alex is 100% right here. There's a veneer of unwarranted queerphobia toward the game, paraded by these loud "gamers".
It's even present on the aggregate tier list featured in the article. The one non-binary companion isolated from the top and stuck on bottom tier. Yes, in my opinion, Veilguard is not fun, but we get shit rpgs with "cringe" dialogue all the time, with nowhere near the animosity Veilguard got.
I really enjoyed it. Played through it once, did every side quest, enjoyed my time with the characters, got the ending I was looking for. Then moved on.
It was ok not the worst thing I’ve ever played but definitely have played better games the gameplay is ok just not my style and the story just made me feel like I didn’t have a choice and that the other choices I made from other games didn’t mater.
I know that there are some fans who didn't like the game & didn't harass the devs, but the problem with them is that they think they speak for every fan when they don't. I've been playing Dragon Age since Origins & I make mods for the games, read the books & comics & I loved Veilguard.
Uh no, lots of us are long term DA fans. This game just did not deliver.
Anti woke bs grifters are to blame, as are the "fans" that mindlessly attack anyone else for actual criticism.
Yes. I waited 10 years for another instalment of my favourite fantasy franchise, preordered it and played on the day it came out because I really wanted it to fail
I just don’t acknowledge it as existing. This is literally the only way for me to still enjoy this world/setting. I tried playing DAO a couple of weeks back and then thought “oh wait what’s the point, I know what’s gonna happen to all these people and characters (nuked off screen)”

Also: Alix rocks. 💜
Was it perfect? Nope. Was any other game in the series perfect?

DA1 and DA2 are masterpieces. It is sad to see a great franchise die like this.
