Looks like Glen Affric. I was there earlier this year. Q. As I walked up the hills, I was picking up Scots pine cones and flinging them into the undergrowth as I got higher. Would that have had any real effect in trying to help spread the trees further up, or was I wasting my time?

It's Torridon. Haha good effort but I would say more than seed dispersal its the grazers that prevent tree establishment.

Oh I see thanks. I was at Torridon a few years ago and the place was swarming with red deer, I hope that still isn’t the case. In Affric the deer are controlled and lots of fences so thought my seed dispersal method might help.
