One of the most DELIGHTFUL surprises in my research about Clara Wieck so far has been the old school men composers who you’d assume were against her but were instead the biggest supporters of her composing. 😍

It wasn’t all of the old guard but some of the older men composers whose peak days were behind them in the 1830s really enjoyed & believed in Clara Wieck’s compositions.
Male music historians projecting their prejudices - grrr. See also Vienna in the 18th century. Martinez, di Paradis, Auenbrugge, Auernhammer etc all much admired (depending on age) by Haydn, Salieri & Mozart and then completely written out of history.
It's so wonderful when a primary source shows us that at least some of the male composers weren't the people we were led to expect and that the women errr existed.
Fascinating isn’t it? Like their works were objectively appreciated by composers who KNEW composition. But once outside the sphere, the prejudice took over & philosophers/historians/writers heard gender not music.
