Great Medical Service in Australia, my wife has had a sore throat for past few days, tried a few 'home cures' - but today we went to Drs Surgery, no appointment, seen in 15 mins., Bulk Billed. No cost.

In the U.S., you'd wait 2 weeks for an appointment with your regular doctor, or you'd go to a walk-in clinic and wait hours to see a doctor. You'd likely have a $50-100 co-pay even with insurance, and then you'd have to pay for any lab tests and prescriptions on top.
Very true. I had to get additional imaging after having a mammogram last month. Soonest appointment was 3 weeks out. I went to the appointment and even with “good” insurance I paid $160 out of pocket
Must be nice. I called at 9:06 am for a same day appt. All full, but I can’t make an appt. for the next day. I have to call at 8:45 am then, along with all, the others to try to get a spot. Yet, it calls itself a clinic, but not an ER clinic that costs more and that Dr. doesn’t have my records.
I have Health Insurance and Medicare. My office visits are free, but to go to an ER close by costs $25 and they don’t have my records. Most my meds are Tier 1 and cost $9. But, the migraine med I should have cost $80 with insurance and $600 without.
And I’m one of the Lucky Ones.
Wait...you didn't need to wait 6 months to see the doctor?! American conservatives have been lying to me?! Or maybe just talking out of their posteriors!
Thankfuly Gvmnt has opened an extra 87 Bulk Billing Medical Centres with hundreds more to come. I have never been charged by a Dr since 2004, never had to wait more than a day for an appointment ever. Been hospitalised 3 times in past 18 months, no wait, no charge. Major surgery. 😀
ditto but both my brother and sister have been told it is a 2 year wait to get an appointment, let alone a assessment for surgery. Both have private health cover.
Sorry don’t believe this. Been bulk billed for over 50 years now and have had countless surgeries with and without private cover. Never had any significant wait time regardless of which party was in power.
Just had a colonoscopy with insurance, paid out of pocket $500=+ they didn't get it all. Procedure again. Paid again. Healthcare is a broken system over here. ffs
Is Australia taking in any new residents? Probably not Americans, though. (Can't say I blame them. It's getting so we don't want to live here, either. Not with "t" in office.)
That’s amazing!! I’m SO grateful Canada has universal healthcare, but wait times are getting much longer as bad actors try to push our system into a pay per service model like the United States. 🥺😢
But wait time here to see a specialist for the first time here takes a long time. I’ve had to wait over 3 months to see one. I made an appointment to see an ophthalmologist and that’s a 45 day wait. I have annoying issues now.
Your posts on BlueSky are usually jokes. I hope this post is not a joke. Labor has opened heaps of urgent medical care clinics around Australia which has helped many Australians. #AusPol
