My hottest painting take: nmm is overrated both as a mark of skill and as an effective finished piece. It rarely looks good unless viewed at a specific angle. Its painting for instagram and not the game table
I've been painting on and off for 20+ years and would love to see some tutorials on fundamentals. For years I've felt like I'm missing something to help me progress and having started in the 90's before any real tutorials I can't help but wonder if it's something really basic I'm getting wrong.
I would recommend Tommie Soule and his 'the art of' book he did. He's all about the fundamentals in that, but at the same time is probably one of the best painters ever. I had lessons from him and the book is a distillation of those and brilliant
Agreed.
I miss the artistry and personality (for lack of a better word) of the early Golden Demons or CoolMiniOrNot days. Sure, maybe not the best from a technical standpoint but the sheer genius of some of those pieces... 🖌️
Great take! I’ve gotten quite good at doing some of the “tricks” but have found it nearly impossible to learning basics. Finally found a friend that is trained as an artist and it’s been helpful when he is available!

As I've mentioned on here before I'm a disabled painter, so finding workarounds to cover things I can't achieve is a big part of the hobby for me.
