I think they locate & track accounts of non-vegetarian animal lovers, waiting for a chance to say "you can't care about animals if you're a meat eater." They feel self-righteous & get a buzz out of abusing people.

I think for the preachy ones, it is black and white. And it can be taken to ridiculous levels. I had lunch with one at a totally vegan place that had dishes called e.g. "Vegan Chicken Drumsticks". She refused to eat any dish that was named after meat, despite knowing they were all meat free!!
