Could it be a misreading of Orcades, Orkney, usually found at the extremes of such maps? See now a recent article on this by Oisín Plumb https://pure.uhi.ac.uk/en/publications/where-were-the-orcades-early-medieval-engagement-with-the-islands

That's a creative idea. I hadn't thought of it. I'd probably think it's a long shot, but it's hard for me to make a valuable judgement; maybe if there was a T-O map like this one with the Orcades in the far east, that would be better support for your suggestion. But I like the poetry of Orcades.
