This information is sourced from DoesItPlay who maintains a database of pretty much exactly this specific thing. 70% isn't the ideal scenario by any means but I rankle a bit at people acting like physical offline games media is already a lost cause. It's not even a *minority* yet, man.

it might be one of the greatest sleights of hand/manufacturing of consents ever pulled off in the games industry that Sony puts the install process for physical games under the "Downloads" tab which I think is like 80% of the cause of this bit of misinformation

oh also the Switch's ratio is vastly more superior with almost the entire library facilitating at least offline play from physical if not just being complete on cart outright. but most people seem to expect that with switch games? idk, the misinfo seems more prevalent with PS games.

I think the PS4/5's UI design is largely to blame because it places both installs from disc and downloads in the same submenu. People see the loading bar for the install and just assume it's actually a download.

however you do need internet to activate the disc drive for the newer slim consoles (or the pro)

We actually have one of the last Blockbuster type video stores just a quarter mile down the road. They pivoted to selling games and consoles when streaming won the movie war.
