I'm just a bit too young for Base Set, but I did find and buy a copy of the Base Set 2 version of Dragonair at a card shop a couple of years ago.

As cool as it'd be to have the haha funny Charizard, this is probably my favorite card in the Set. It just looks so pretty and beautiful.

Very casually collected as a kid. I opened a pack for my 6th or 7th birthday and got the holo version of this Mew. It was and still is my favorite card to this day.

I was also big into collecting the Topps cards. Ended up with all the mons except for Weepinbell for some reason 😅

Somewhere I hope 😅 I moved nearly constantly as a kid and young adult, and have hit a record breaking 4.5 years in my current home. I'm not sure where they ended up, but I have some great memories of trading with my friends

I put together several weeks of allowance and bought a foil Blaistoise off another kid in my class for $30. When my mom found out, she was furious, and tolf me to go back on the deal, which he did.

So many trainer cards in that set they will never ever reprint. No "supporter" cards; trainers can be used as often as you have them provided you have ample card drawing power courtesy of Bill and Professor Oak. With 2 super energy removals, you can incapacitate a fully equipped high-damage terror.

I still have my base set Zapdos that I opened in a pack given to me on my birthday in 1999. This was so great for me because Zapdos has always been one of my favorite legendaries and my excitement was over the moon.

My first card was a slightly damaged Metapod that a friend of mine gifted me on the way home from school in the summer of 2000! It was a very special card to me but I sadly lost it.

Fun trivia: we were all so crazy about "gambling" with the cards that the school board banned them that same year 😅

I remember getting packs at the grocery store with my mom and they were by the checkout aisle. It looked a lot like the grocery store in Home Alone for the younger kids who are used to the sterile white stores of modern day.
