Ok so the basic sonic lore is that there’s a mad scientist named Dr Eggman who wants to take over the world and build a giant theme park using energy harnessed from animals and Sonic doesn’t like that so he stops him.

BUT if we’ve talking about Maria here that’s more Shadow’s thing-

Ok so Maria is the daughter of Gerald Robotnik (Dr Eggman’s grandfather) but she has some sort of disease and Gerald was trying to find a cure for it this led to the creation of Shadow as being the ultimate lifeform could harbor the cure for all diseases.
However the first attempts at shadow failed-

so in a Faustian bargain Gerald used the DNA of the alien warlord, Black Doom, to help create shadow. But black doom was spotted by some kid visiting and he snitched to the government and they destroyed everything related to shadow, leading to Maria getting dying

Sonic is a blue car and he has a yellow helicopter, a red train, and a black car as his friends. The cars are fast, the helicopter is a nerd, and the train hits people really hard. They fight the evil Dr. Eggman, who's trying to make them eat their vegetables. Also dead child.
