Overall, this seems to show that AI can be a sounding board for a journalist to see what a neutral summary would sound like. It can't take the place of all the information-gathering that a reporter does. But it can prevent problems like "sanewashing," the act of making incoherence sound coherent.

Interesting experiment, but the problem is that the press doesn’t think it is its job to evaluate whether or not a politician is coherent or persuasive. Why not run the same experiment but ask Claude to write a newspaper story based on a Trump’s recent statement about arresting his enemies etc.?

Interesting. Since AI trains on the prior biases of reporters, and is highly dependent on what it's being asked, I wonder how this would work in the hands of journalists, though.

It might train toward professional biases such as a desire for novelty. But it would not be trained toward any biases toward individual candidates, which is what I was trying to counteract.

Changing the professional priorities of journalists would be beyond this approach.
