Sadly true. Unlike RvW, there is a federal law authorizing it. The SCOTUS isn't supposed reverse a duly-passed law. Then again, Dump and his predecessors have stacked the court with extremists.
Ireland in the 1980’s - a ban on divorce, homosexuality was a crime, abortion was banned. In 1995 we voted to allow divorce. In 1998, homosexuality was now longer a crime. In 2015, we collectively voted for marriage equality. In 2019, abortion was legalised. America, you’re going the wrong way!
I think the people who push to remove marriage rights are so insecure in their own relationships that other people who are happy unsettle them. It really is baffling why they are so obsessed with targeting us.
I feel like the White House and Congressional Dems are abandoning our LGBTQ community right now George. Where is the outrage? Why are they being silent?
Indiana has turned into a festering shithole thanks to the fact Hoosier votes do not matter anymore. The election is already decided by the time Indiana votes.
You meen the same cort that overturned RvW yea no. I wouldint be suprised if they are doing this to give the current SC a chance to try and overthrow gay marrige.
The Twitter post is inaccurate. Section 46 has been law in Indiana since 1997. Obergefell invalidated it but it's still there evening unenforceable. All 1291 does is change every mention of gender to biological sex in Indiana code, so it's anti-trans more than anti-gay.
Looks like that's already a law there, probably waiting for something to happen, like states that had anti abortion laws waiting for the Roe to get overturned. Looksike all.this bill does is.change the "biological sex" bit.
Supremacy clause applies. The Respect for Marriage Act that was signed into law in 2022 would have to be challenged directly and held unconstitutional, and there's nothing in that law that runs afoul of the Constitution. This Indiana law, if passed, would be immediately invalidated by the courts.
"Justice" Thomas already explicitly said this should happen: when RvW was struck down he wrote that they, "should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell"

"The past" was not a good place for anyone other than rich white men.
Indiana: I'mma pretend I didn't see that
People need to go back to minding their own god damm business.
As for minding their own business, conservatism is only ever about one thing: Conserving and gathering power. Nothing else.
