This is really insane. I mean, how can you go against the wishes of a person who passed away? Even while he was living, he protested this film being made about him. It’s just vulgar.
I'm baffled by the uproar. A famous celebrity passed away and Hollywood is making a biopic. So what? Is there some deeper beef I'm missing here, like a generational feud between the Simmons and the Shores?
My ex was biggest asshole behinds doors, yet his parents were saints. Sometimes folks aren't their parents but their surroundings, letting the world mold them into something heartless.
His anger, while valid feeling to have. Gives him no right to step on others like they are nothing. Simmons should be respected, his family's wishes should be respected. It's 2025 now.. We gotta respect the dead
There is no “they”.
Sadly, Mr. Simmons cannot protect his reputation. Mr. Shore’s only interest in such a project is the opportunistic visual similarity to Mr. Simmons. It’s obvious that Shore can’t replicate his authenticity of spirit.
Some people deserve to get memorialized they earned it all the jokes at their expense all the scars for the rest of us to be prepared Tanks that teach Tanks. I hope it goes well and the biopic is epic.❤️🔥🐝 Meanwhile in Kansas, all i had to type was exercise and this was on the first page.
I don't really understand the issue as long it is done respectfully Richard Simmons was a good man that help a lot of people get healthy and he saved lifes.
Do I find it weird Pauly wants to do this? Sure. I also saw a sample of what he wants to do and its nothing but love. So I dont get the families problem, especially if the have final say on the finished product. Its the same agreement as 'The Iron Claw'.
The problem is Shore never asked Simmons directly, Simmons was working on his own biopic, and Simmons explicitly did not want Shore to go ahead with his.
Mate, if any director came to me and asked if DANIEL DAY LEWIS could play my ancestor I’d be flat out on their casting couch before they finished their sentence.
Richard Simmons was the easy target of lazy jokes and bullying-type bigotry in the 80s/90s.
He was a good caring person, who brought positivity & light to the world. His wishes should be respected & honored.
I have to agree with the Simmons family that biopics should at least address family concerns…. It’s like Matt Gaetz wanting to play you in a film against Brads wishes
Richard was a joy for me to see on shows he came up on. I think mostly talk shows I saw him on. I dont know how he kept the love in his heart during the 80s and 90s when people were so hateful towards him.
Though, I think he showed me, everyone has a story so dont be so quick on the judgement.
This is not a good look kids.
Yes, he can produce a “biopic” about a public figure…. But does it need to be “The Weasel”? Not sure if he’s the one to pull this off. I’ll be happy if proven wrong.
He was a nice guy who like to help people and make them laugh and he wanted to have his own private life we all deserve that. Picking on the nice guy after death just seems skeezy.
Jesus Christ, I stopped reading half way through the article. The drama!!!
Just let the man do his movie it’s a 50/50 chance. No one is asking for it and I bet no one is demanding one. Richard was a household name only in AMERICA. A movie, good or bad will still hit international theaters.
Jesse eisenberg looks more like Richard Simmons than Pauly shore who has a resemblance but not as much as Jesse. Pauly shore can actually act but he needs to be doing other roles. Not one where allegedly the actual person was telling him to stop.
Well the truth is it's not their story to tell. If Richard Simmons family and estate want the production to halt they should totally respect that. Richard Simmons deserves respect. He's earned it!
If they did a real biopic with a good cast, a great script writer, full of his love and joy, it would be awesome. Shore can actually act. I don't know if he can act good enough for a good movie like this though. I'd much rather see Taron Egerton or someone similar.
Pauly is only trying to produce a loving memory of someone he admired
Granted Richard said no and passed away later is hard on Pauly because he knows he is the right person for the part
Reading it. It's 100% para-social relationship. Down right creepy, & stalkerish. How can anyone defend Shore? If anyone has been abused before or stalked or both, you know Shore needs to stop
Not only the fact Shore is piggyback riding on Simmons' career, never really cared about the guy at all

Dear lord, the arrogance.
Respect the man and his family's wishes.

Richard Simmons was a class by himself.

Your definition of respect seems to be pretty fucked up
Wait! Pauly Shore is still around?
DANIEL FUCKING DAY FUCKING LEWIS.
Who WOULDN’T say yes, you muppet?!?!?!
Really, really stupid analogy.
He was a good caring person, who brought positivity & light to the world. His wishes should be respected & honored.
That was a pretty powerful thing to see as a fat kid.
I thought, "Damn, old Simmons looks like he barely survived a Mad Max style apocalypse." but it then I realized it was Paulie Shore's face.
Though, I think he showed me, everyone has a story so dont be so quick on the judgement.
FTFY

That's enough of that. I am a kinder person in 2025.

I would need the full Alex DeLarge treatment to watch anything with him in it. Or Kevin Sorbo.
