Can I ask why the Piano Man can retire for his health when our INCREDIBLY OLD AND SENILE Democratic leadership won't, and have instead opted for the strategy of dropping dead at the most inconvenient of times?
I know that the two aren't directly related, but, you know... the news.
Yes! The major thing is that he got the correct diagnosis. NPH is often missed because it's mistaken for various kinds of dementia/ age-related memory loss.
😞 It likely is impacting his hands/feet - can't trust his body to play. I have full body to neuropathy due to spinal issues. I've lost fine motor skills, my fingers can have a mind of their own, working on the computer (bookkeeper) is becoming harder. It's really hard to come back from neuro issues
I have cared for many patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus. One of the classic symptoms is a shuffle when you walk. It’s frequently under diagnosed. Most patients get a VP shunt and immediately have improvement if their symptoms.
After hearing about Billy Joel’s diagnosis, I read about it today. And I think it’s actually what my husband may have. The symptoms fit him to a T. Mind if I ask, would you recommend the first steps we take is to contact a neurologist?
I’m not trying to be rude or anything but can we please keep that name out of this forum? Just about anywhere else, fine but we’re talking Billy Joel here. So please, I’m asking nicely.
Those two things are not even remotely the same. If you're going to take advantage of sad news to show how little decorum you have, go do it somewhere else.
My mom was diagnosed with NPH in her 70s, received a shunt, and was back to normal pretty much immediately. She’s 91 and still going strong. Hope the same for Billy Joel.
Hope all goes well for him. Joel was one of my favorite radio artist growing up in the 80s. I was poor so I spent a lot of time around the radio and top 40 music.
His music played a very special part in my 45 year marriage. My late husband and I were sure several songs were about us. I do hope he gets better If karma is real he’s got lots of goodness coming his way. ❤️
The first live concert I ever saw was Billy Joel on the tour for his album "52nd Street." During the final song "Big Shot" he jumped up on his piano and waved a sign that said "Billy Joel for President"
Good chance of effective treatment.
My mum had the same. An externally programmable implanted shunt worked for 17yrs until she died of other causes.
The symptoms of NPH never returned.
My father-in-law recently died of this disease. He was 82. It wasn’t diagnosed until it was too late. Hopefully, Joel’s speaking of it will bring awareness of its effects so others might get a quicker diagnoses.
Billy Joel getting NPH is devastating for someone that has brought so much love and joy into our hearts. I’m hoping it isn’t aggressive and he’s able to walk and think clearly for a very long time. Keeping you in my thoughts, Billy.
This is killing me. He is my favorite artist by far and my idol. His music has literally saved my life. Prayers for good health. Coincidentally, I have congenital hydrocephalus.

Piano Man is great, but I'm more of a "We Didn't Start The Fire" girl myself.
