It really does suck that the best eras s3 has had for comp in terms of the game itself have been post content, I really want to see how much larger things would be if this happened alongside content and a more active player base. I didn’t play comp for a year for this exact reason, the meta was a bit too silly. Now we know that it probably won’t get fixed next patch so i guess we just have to deal with it until splatoon 4.

This is only semi-related, but I'm still saddened by the lack of good cooler options in high level comp, I still remember when we had like 4 alternatives, but now, the number has only gotten down since then

I'm permanently jaded in this regard, but during content releases all I remember hearing was how people were waiting for "the game to get fixed/saved" with new kits, balance changes, etc. It feels like it's not until content is done that people innovate, so only now does the meta feel fleshed out

On one hand I'm glad we get around to it eventually when it's clear there's no other choice, but I'd love to see a timeline where this same approach/mentality coexists with the game still developing, at least on a broader scale. Ofc some people always try to innovate and some never will

What I mean by too slow is how long it took for problems to be fixed which is ultimately how we got here. It took forever for a pen paint nerf, meaningful zooka nerf, and a long time to buff specific weps let alone release good options. Most of the new s3 main weps sucked till recently.

People were def too focused on patches back then and like the end result of the slow balancing was good, but looking back I think the same changes could have happened like 50% faster realistically. I think its more of a "I wish content lasted longer" thing though.

If nothing else post switch 2 release splatoon comp will feel better than ever to play (given they dont ruin the game in 2 patches) simply due to better hardware allowing for a smoother and stable experience. If they somehow include mouse support in s3 it could revive some interest in the game too

S3 with mouse support would be the first game to really showcase the difference between the 2 control schemes that's not just "oh yeah we threw in gyro aiming as an after thought", with proper coverage it could be something people actually talk about
