Brereton says the possible names put forward were sourced from a list of names working on complex matters by the Australian Government Solicitor. "First of all the AGS approached the people or a number of people on the list to see if they were interested..."

Brereton says the names were discussed by deputy commissioners and himself but added "it was a very short list." He says he "did not choose a subset" of the names on the list. The deputy commissioners have been "as involved as I am in that process."

A couple of things: IMO Brereton obviously not up to the job - conflicts of interest & unaware of legislation defining corruption. Given sensitive nature of NACC, and Canberran who’s who is networked back to early years pretty much, jobs at NACC should have always gone to outsiders. Just saying…
