Six to 8 months to fully onboard.
And then two years of probation.
Limited to no salary negotiations.
And then oath bound to the Constitution.

People do it because they WANT to SERVE.

The irony here is that many folks who had some optimism about DOGE (e.g. to improve government efficiency), were so on the grounds that personnel policy in the federal government was too rigid--especially because it **took too long to hire people.**
