Tomoyuki Sugano previously faced Andrew McCutchen in the semifinals of the 2017 World Baseball Classic (a 2-1 win for U.S. over Japan).

McCutchen went 1-for-2 with a single vs. Sugano in that game. He went 0-for-1 today.

"It was somewhat nostalgic," Sugano said via interpreter.
