Find out what asteroid Bennu is made from. The anti-tank round is to collect material from a few feet inside the asteroid. Previous missions got surface material, which is interesting but has been scoured by aeons of solar wind and radiation.
I think it was trying to study asteroid composition. So they fired a bullet at it and collected debris that flew off it since they couldn't land on it at the time.
