Rope dropping.
My family learned it visiting Disney and now routinely utilize the technique in regular life. Also in the real world, getting there about 5 minutes before they open makes a shockingly huge difference if you are talking about any decent size crowd.

I also was picking up a subscription from Kroger (pharmacy not busy) and abandoned my idea of grabbing some half-half and bread due to huge lines.
Yes, I know how stereotypical that is.
