Am thinking I will start with just password login, magic link (using Resend) and I guess I must implement something for users to reset their password. And I think I will use D1 for storage.

Indeed the Lucia site is a great resource.

That's a flow I haven't implement myself. I'm working on something simpler with license keys and short-lived API tokens. The hono APIs are nice for this as well.

No, Lucia is deprecated. But they have some learning resources on their website to build your own auth :)

It’s not that complex. And doesn’t require a lot of maintenaince work code wise. But it is time consuming to research protocols and security, properly hooking up oauth, deal with users who have forgotten their passwords, sending transactional mails that don’t end up in spam folders and more.
