It's true that "armchair activism" doesn't help as much as people showing up at protests, but I think there may be something to be said about using the internet and social media to reach out and make connections instead of preaching to our peers.

I fail at TikTok. I want a social medium to take my message and send it around the world, but TikTok just wants to find American men my age and show it to them, defeating the point. I can buy ads to send my message to different targets, but if I have to do that the medium already failed.
However, in RedNote, my message mostly goes to China, though that's just an effect of where all the users are, but it reminds me of why I liked sharing on forums before all these "social media" sites existed.
Even while our governments are encouraging isolation, we can make the international connections at citizen levels and remind each other that the shitheads are just our political leaders.
It also occurred to me in the early days of the birdsite, that most of my audience of the time came from countries that were enemies of the United States during World War II.

That's how we should use social media.
