I should add that his presidency was mixed; he's sometimes regarded as where neoliberalism began, and there's plenty to critique about his nuclear policy. But he evolved as he freed himself from being part of the government into an increasingly outspoken and bold voice for peace and human rights.

I remember his presidency and the debates with Reagan (when LVW conducted them). He was an advocate for healthcare for all and confronting climate crisis. He was an advocate for PEACE his entire life.

I will never forget how he was considered a joke after leaving the presidency. But he just continued doing what he had always done -- serving. He got results and earned the respect of those who had scorned him. But he didn't even care about that. He would have done it, anyway.

Jimmy Carter was essential for the defense of human rights in Argentina which, before his term, were constantly violated by the dictatorship. He put an international stop to that methodology, implicitly authorized by Ford administration, and supported the fight of local human rights ONGs.
