I keep thinking about how the NBA has embraced social media more than any other league. And one of the pitfalls of it is commentators are incentivized to be loud to draw engagement on social.
I don't know what KD is specifically responding to, but most criticism I've seen about this weekend is that it didn't center BASKETBALL. It was side shows, comedians, commercials, a broadcast team honoring itself, etc.
This is spot on. Honestly a big part of it is the social media, YouTube and podcast of the nba. For every Dunkers Spot podcast there are 7 pods of random “fanboys” with an account saying what’s bad about the nba. This is about 90% of what the ringer produces in the form of basketball content.
