That Pete Rose was sleeping with underage girls was an open secret to ppl near him. In "Collision at home plate: the lives of Pete Rose and Bart Giamatti," James Reston Jr. wrote that shortly before Rose started playing in the majors, it was common knowledge that his "girlfriend" was a 14-year-old.

The reason Pete Rose stopped being on Fox's MLB studio show is because it came out that he'd slept with a girl in the 70's who says she was 14-15 yrs old at the time. In fact, Rose was alleged by the man who investigated him (John Dowd) to have sexually preyed on girls as young as 12 yrs old.

When people call Pete Rose a pedophile now, it needs to be understood that it's not even based on one single allegation - which is bad enough. It's that, by multiple accounts, he was a serial offender. Just wanted to make that clear.
