Two of the smaller parties - the pro-Kremlin BSW and the neoliberal FDP - did not pass the 5% threshold and will not be represented in the new Bundestag. But the strong showing of Die Linke isn't great due to their overly accommodating approach towards Russia and China /2

This means that Germany will likely get another 'grand coalition', the fourth in 20 years. This is not ideal. I had hoped for a coalition between the CDU/CSU and the Greens, which would have been best for the development of a new strategic culture. Alas, it wasn't meant to be /3

I sincerely hope that the new coalition government will realise the fierce urgency of now and tackle both domestic and foreign challenges as quickly as possible: e.g. by removing the debt brake, investing in defence, tackling the immigration issue to keep the AfD at bay /5
