They have been doing this for some time now, probably the past year. A number of large Ukraine aid packages have been issued with the interest on frozen assets paying back the loans.
Europe is wary to pass on Russian assets to Ukraine because it would deter outside investment in their economies. I agree with them on that aspect not because of that fear but because 300 billion is a BIG bargaining chip that can see Russian withdrawal from areas of Ukraine in the future.
Perhaps 🤔 I don't know enough about it tbh, but I can't see Russia withdrawing willingly no matter what, as long as Putrid is above ground. That's just how I see it. Not wishing to argue with you because I really only see it through the lens of reporting & discussions with my Dr who is Ukrainian. 🙃
That's the thing, Putin won't live forever. As long as trade and assets remain frozen between Europe and Russia the West has a larger bargaining chip because Russia needs that cash and trade to survive long term. The next guy along may need that cash and troops to secure his position of power.
300 billion at 5% interest should generate 15 billion in revenue annually. So every country holding Russian assets needs to simply put the money towards stocks with a high dividend or bonds with a high interest rate and pay out to Ukraine annually.
Europe is just about ready to take over Russia. We have to seize all their property oil. Everything they owe is trillions. Russia will be part of Europe. We’re changing the name to Ukraine only. There will be no Russia anymore. Vladimir stinky Putin will be dead of a heart attack by then.
