Plus, killing her being the solution goes against what I think the point of Dave's arc is. Separating his powers *failed*, it was the wrong solution that caused more harm. Killing her is like attempting that again round 2. You can't just erase your problems from existence, you have to sit with them.

Killing him wouldn't change Dave's disordered relationship with his powers or himself, and would in all likelihood make him far worse knowing his son was forced to kill him, his reflection. It tells him that he really DID need to kill a part of himself for people to be safe. The wrong lesson.

Its just such a dark and pessimistic way to end off the story even for dnblore. I can't see that being the intended ending, if there even is one. Expunged surely has to survive, but it's not like there won't still be high stakes and tension
