Exactly. Even in the 90s it was seen as controversial. 80s was like "Don't you want a career any more?" Thoee women were brave as f-! I'd add Betty White and Angela Lansbury to the list, from what I've read.

totally! I remember in 90s Los Angeles, Sheryl Lee Ralph was out there doing the legwork and organizing AIDS benefit shows all the time. I think the city of West Hollywood even gave her an award.

Elizabeth Taylor was a vocal gay ally throughout the 1980s and 90s.
AIDS was decimating our communities and giving cruel justification for homophobia.
Standing up for us was a risky career move then, few were prepared to do so.
