Rifle Club seems like an Amal Neerad movie disguised as an Aashiq Abu one - visual style, slow motion, dialogues. Internal rivalries, great setting, and an ensemble cast, including 4 directors and Hanumankind, make this extended gunfight an interesting watch.

I now see how Premalu and I Am Kathalan could have been the same story in parallel universes. Naslen does not get as much support from the rest of the cast as he does in the former, but still manages to make it believable. A good one-time watch.

For a directorial debut, Joju's Pani (he was an AD in 1997!) is a decent watch. Smart casting (including the new faces) and a tight screenplay makes sure that it is engaging and rises beyond the fairly generic plot line (it's really Thrissur Pooram 2).

I quite liked the plot of Anand Sreebala, it's apparently based on true events! Arjun Asokan does most of the heavy lifting, with solid help from Saiju Kurup, who finally gets a chance to get back into grey shades. Engaged me despite the near 2.5 hr runtime

My hypothesis is that the makers of Identity had a very late-stage pan-India thought. That meant adding, IMO unnecessary visual and screenplay elements to what was a decent script, and bloating to more than 2.5 hours. 🤷‍♂️

Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal packages old wine reasonably well with its excellent casting, and contemporarising the narrative. There is nothing really extraordinary at a script level, but the chemistry between the actors and the slow burn is what worked for me. #malayalam #movies

Indrans was so good in Home. And then he was in a weird movie where he is a labourer who goes with his family to pick apples in Himachal Pradesh. Nothing sort of story line but he was very believable.

I liked Indrans in Home and Veyilmarangal. His journey is spectacular - from costume design to slapstick to this. For me, the reveal of his current version was in another 2 min role - the first scene of Anjaam Pathiraa, as Ripper Ravi. A masterclass in being subtly chillingly menacing.
